Each year the FWC releases a highly detailed Boating Accident Statistical report. Inside, you will find statistics for all manner of boating-related matters. It covers everything from accidents to the number of people who obtained a license that year. This year the FWC Boating Accident Statistical Report reveals that while the number of individuals issued Boating Safety Education I.D. Cards continue to rise, there is still a grave number of accidents that result in peril.
Over the course of 2021, there were 751 reported accidents that occurred in Florida waters. This is an 11% decrease from 2020’s 836 reported accidents. Last year Florida saw 60 fatalities compared to the 79 deaths the prior year.
It seems that the state of Florida is moving in the right direction, with a decrease in accidents and fatalities and an increase in safety measures such as more Boating Safety Education I.D. Cards that are being issued. However, these numbers are still concerning.
